Some new letters…

23 Feb

I have had an amazing past week. On Thursday and Friday I got to attend my states regional ABA conference. I heard lots of thought provoking and informative presentations. (More to come on this!)

Our Keynote speaker was Julie Vargas. Julie just happens to be the daughter of BF Skinner. Skinner, of course, is one of the most influential behaviorists to ever live. His discoveries and theories are still widely used today.

Then, as if my day could have gotten any better…it did!

I found out that I get to add some new letters to my name. I passed my BCBA exam! I am now a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

After years of hard work and studying, I’m celebrating this big success and looking forward to the new opportunities this will afford me. I’m also relishing that this huge milestone along the path I’ve chosen goes all the way back to my little brother being diagnosed 7 years ago. 🙂

There is a reason for everything.

Yours Truly,

Angelina, MS, BCBA, MFTI 😉

Congratulations! I have been following your blog for the past few weeks and have found it so inspiring! My goal is to become a BCBA as well. I haven’t started the process yet, just applying to masters programs right now. Can I ask you what you did your masters in and how long it took you to get your BCBA? Thank you and keep up your wonderful work 🙂

Thanks so much! That’s awesome to hear. My Masters is in Clinical Psychology. I did that first then went into my BCBA coursework. Doing it that way, took 3 1/2 years for me. 2 for the Masters, 1 1/2 for the BCBA. Some people do a Masters in ABA though so they don’t have to do separate coursework. I did the BCBA classes through Florida Tech (FIT) online. I felt it prepared me really well for the exam! I recommend their program 🙂 Keep in touch if you have any other questions. Good luck with everything!!

Thanks for the info! I am applying to two ABA programs and two Early Childhood Special Ed programs…waiting to see which one I get into and yeah, it would be easier if I got into one of the ABA ones. I’ll look into FIT, thanks!
