In 2006 my youngest brother, Dylan, was diagnosed with Autism. And I can pin-point that day as the day that changed my life. Okay, I can’t actually recall the very day we got the diagnosis…But, what I know is that my career, my education, my passions, and my purpose have all sprouted from my brother’s diagnosis.
Since 2006 I have done applied behavior analysis with children diagnosed with autism and other related disabilities. I’ve worked with dozens of children and families, and have seen both first and secondhand how autism effects families.
I’m a trained professional who also understands the deep crevices of all autism means to a family. And I’m a big sister, who also has an education, and years of experience, in the research and treatment of autism. My blog is a collaboration of both aspects.
There are so many layers to autism, hence the blog title. So this blog is all about the endless facets of an autism diagnosis, from the unique perspective of a family member and a professional.
Love the title of your blog….Definitely signing to receive updates via email…TY
Thank you! I appreciate your support. Autism really is an onion, isn’t it?? Never ending layers!!
That it is and since I’ve started my foundation I have indeed noticed that each child is unique in their own special way and like an onion there are many different levels that have to be peeled away in order to get to the heart & soul of each child.
I have just stumbled across your blog and am so glad to read some views similar to mine. I read such extreme opinions and i find yours to be true and real. I have worked as an ABA tutor for over 2 years, after doing a pyschology and child development degree. My brother was also diagnosed 6 months ago with Aspergers (aged 22). Its very hard to remain professional where family is involved. I look forward to reading your updates 🙂
So glad you found my blog and that we share a sister connection. Thanks so much for your support 🙂
I nominated you for a Liebster award 🙂 The link is http://ipockolypse.wordpress.com/2014/07/03/liebster-award/ if you’d like to accept!
